Air Travel
Mexico is well connected. The country has 59 international airports and 26 domestic airports, as well as a fleet of 7,800 airplanes.
Guadalajara is served by the Don Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla International Airport, located 25 kilometers south of the city. It is classified as the second largest airport in terms of air operations and third in terms of passenger transportation in Mexico.
In 2010, Guadalajara’s airport reached more than 4.7 million national passengers and 2.1 million international passengers.
Direct flights are offered to several destinations within Mexico, the United States and Central America. Through connections at the Mexico City International Airport (1-hour flight from Guadalajara), passengers have access to direct flights to every major city in the United States, Canada, Latin America and Europe, as well as Australia and Japan.
Highways
Mexico has more than 360,000 kilometers of roads, highways and toll highways. Jalisco is Mexico’s 1st place in road infrastructure, with a 25,503.98 km network linking it to other states of the country and to the United States border.
Local transportation
Driving in Mexico is a wonderful experience. You can rent a car directly at any airport, where you will find most of the international car rental firms. You must be at least 21 years old and have a valid driver’s license and a credit card to rent a car.
Visitors have also a wide range of public transportation means, including taxi services and buses.
Guadalajara is as safe as any major city, so you can feel confident about walking around the downtown area and in the main tourist sections of the city.
