Tour to Tlaquepaque*

9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The word Tlaquepaque comes from a Nahuatl phrase, the language that the Aztecs spoke, that means “Hill where the clay comes from”. This tells us that this fabulous place has been an artisan village for many centuries. Now Tlaquepaque is one of Mexico´s preeminent centers for decorative arts and crafts, being pottery and blown glass two of the most popular items that are found here.
During the colonial period, many wealthy families made their summer or weekend homes in Tlaquepaque and these magnificent colonial mansions are now shops and galleries, making them the perfect setting for the large variety of crafts made in the region.
After visiting the main sites in Tlaquepaque, such as the Parián, a large plaza flanked by columned arcades, the Jardín Hidalgo, which is the main square, the Church of Saint Peter, Our Lady of Solitude and the Independence Street, you will have free time to stroll around on your own before we meet again for your special pottery work shop, where the artisan will teach you how to make clay items and you will be able to make your own master piece.
After the walking tour, you will go have lunch in the traditional and majestic Mansion of the “Casa Fuerte” restaurant. Here you will enjoy the art of Mexican cuisine with delicious meals based in authentic Mexican recipes from the prehispanic and colonial period.
Finally, to end up the day in Tlaquepaque, you will attend a spectacle in the famous Jardín Hidalgo, where young and talented children will present us a singing show.
