México

Covering almost 2 million km2, Mexico is the fifth-largest country in the Americas by total area, and with an estimated population of 111 million, it is the most populous Spanish-speaking country in the world.

Its culture reflects the complexity of the country's history through the blending of pre-Hispanic civilizations and the culture of Spain, imparted during 300-year colonization.

On the other hand, the economy of Mexico is the 11th largest in the world, based on the leadership of several industries, such as high technology. In fact, Mexico’s electronics and IT industries are reaching a maturity that gives them a privileged position in the digital world.

The electronics industry has more than 700 manufacturing companies, employing more than 340,000 people. The IT industry includes over 2,000 companies.

Given the great potential and the impact generated by IT services in local economies and other sectors, these are now a strategic element of Mexico’s economic development as acknowledged by the Mexican Government in its National Development Plan.

The IT sector is not only important because of its potential growth, but also because of its qualitative influence in all the other productive sectors, optimizing their processes and enabling them to be more reliable.

As a result, the Mexican Ministry of Economy, in conjunction with the academic, public and private sectors, set in motion two strategies to achieve sustainable economic growth: the Program for the Development of the Software Industry (Prosoft) and, more recently, the Program for the Development of the Interactive Media Industry (Promedia).
